Gorey CC 10 St Conleth's College 8:REPLACEMENT HARRY Woods was the right player in the right place with just four minutes left on the clock to finish a try that gave Gorey Community School their first Leinster Schools McMullen Senior Cup final win at Greystones RFC yesterday.
This was a hard one to take for St Conleth’s, for they turned up as clear underdogs, but refused steadfastly to fall into that role.
Indeed, left winger Jack Clark nipped in for an early unconverted try that was cancelled out by blindside Eddie Earle’s drive to the line on the half-time whistle.
The teams were back where they started, Gorey looking to their pack to exert pressure and St Conleth’s hitting quickly on the counter. Fullback Roger Mannion shot the losers back into the lead.
They looked like staying there before replacement Woods was the last one at the end of a series of pick-and-gos and eventually crossed the line.
