Wicklow enhanced their prospects with a winning performance against Leitrim at Carrick-on-Shannon yesterday. They just held on to clinch a three points victory, the goal coming via Trevor Doyle 30 minutes into the first half.
Midway through the first half Leitrim led by double scores, 0-4 to 0-2. After Trevor Doyle gave Wicklow the lead, the same player added a goal and a point in the next five minutes to give Wicklow a 1-7 to 08 interval lead. The game was won and lost in the opening minutes of the second half as Leitrim laid siege to the Wicklow goal.
Goalkeeper Tommy Murphy was Wicklow's saviour as he deflected a Fintan McBrien shot and then saved an Aidan Rooney penalty kick.
