Wides were the order of the day in the first half, with Kilkenny leading 0-3 to 0-1 approaching the break, when Larry Murphy flicked a Justin Kenny 65 to the net to give Wexford a 1-1 to 0-3 lead.

In a low scoring second-half it took excellent late points from Byrne and Michael Jordan to give Wexford a morale boosting victory.
