Wesley booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Leinster Junior Cup with a splendid second-half display at Williamstown yesterday.
Gonzaga out-half Oisin Crean found the posts earlier on, but Wesley availed of some good fortune when an attempted kick into touch instead found Gonzaga's in-goal area, and, in the ensuing confusion, Craig Sargent capitalised to hand Wesley the lead.
Gonzaga soon regained the lead when flanker Eoghan Twoomey went over after a forward push.
Gonzaga led 8-5 at the break, but Wesley began the second half brightly with Seye Ashiru coming close to his first try with a determined charge. Moments later he did get over, and scrum-half David Woolington converted. A line-out in Gonzaga's 22 allowed Wesley to forge further ahead with Colin Wallace cleverly peeling away to run down the short side for a try in the corner.
Gonzaga responded well and reduced the deficit to just four points with 10 minutes to go with Twoomey's second try.
But Wesley where not to be outdone, and left wing David Heland showed some brilliant defence in the closing stages.
