The World Boxing Association and the World Boxing Council have agreed on a merger that would create only one champion in each weight category. The two organisations agreed on the merger during a meeting in Mexico City between WBA president Gilberto Mendoza and WBC president Jose Sulaiman.
"This is a very ambitious project for us," said WBC executive secretary Eduardo Lamazon. "We're talking about a project that will take many months, but I think it will bring results within the year."
