The holders, Waterford IT, also advanced to the semi-final stages after a deserved success over NUIG at a sodden Dangan, Galway, yesterday.

Waterford, who will stage the finals of the competition next month, established their win by a goal each from two senior intercounty players, Declan Browne (Tipperary) and Henry Shefflin (Kilkenny) near the interval.

The hosts had three points without reply through Ger McGlacken, Tony Griffin and a David Tierney free. But between the 15th and 17th minutes, Shefflin had two points to level matters at 0-3 each.
