London's hopes of making a winning debut in Division Two were thwarted by Waterford who took the points at Ruislip yesterday.

The more experienced visitors dominated the opening half and got off to a flying start within a minute with a close range point by full forward Billy O'Sullivan. Although London were given numerous chances to test the opposition in this half the most they could muster was three points from frees, scored by centre forward Timmy Maloney.

Waterford, on the other ha scarcely missed a scoring opportunity and the interval score of 1-9 to 0-3 virtually ended the game as a contest.

Positional changes by London who lost key forward Donal Murphy through injury before the game, saw them offer greater resistance in the second half.

Apart from the free taking expertise of Paul Flynn, Waterford always promised danger in an attack that combined splendid approach work with expert finishing. Here, Billy O'Sullivan and Ken McGrath were in dominant form although it is to London's credit that their defence, in which Gerry Spellman, J J Sheil and Seamus Tooher were outstanding, stood their ground well.

Midfielder Tony Brown dominated for Waterford, as did defenders James O'Connor, Tom Feeney and Sean Cullinane.
