The recently wed Norman Williamson will have his final rides at Tralee this afternoon and can bow out of the meeting on a winning note courtesy of Vatirisk in the Brandon Hotel four-year-old handicap hurdle.
He came within inches of winning a flat handicap at The Curragh last weekend and if you go back to his previous run at Galway he has an outstanding chance at the weights.
Then he finished second to Sweet Brief and had a minimum of eight lengths in hand of Snob Wells (third) and Soviet Blues (seventh) whom he now meets on similar terms.
J P McManus, who is enjoying a splendid Summer campaign with his National Hunt horses, could have a treble this afternoon with The Gatherer (3-0), Deckie (4-0) and Crossbar (5-30), a trio all from different stables being trained respectively by Arthur Moore, Christy Roche and Tommy Carmody. The Gatherer went close to giving his owner a Galway Plate and Hurdle double with Grimes having won the Plate, The Gatherer then beat everything except Ansar in the Hurdle.
As in the case at The Curragh, Tralee also has an eight-race programme tomorrow which brings down the curtain on the Festival in which after day four the layers are certainly in front.
However, their margin is not so great that the punters could not come back although it will not be easy as Sunday has its share of traps and so the only bankers are Get It On (3-0) and Ringrooma (5-35).
J P McManus bought Get It On out of the Frances Crowley stable after he had impressed in upsetting a Cork gamble on Walnut Creek which at the time was working very well for Charlie Swan.
He was put by with Galway in mind and duly delivered with a smooth seven-length victory from Columba.
