The captains of next year's Solheim Cup teams will be the first to take on the job with previous experience of playing in the event. Dale Reid, who has played in the cup four times and was part of Europe's winning team in 1992, is taking over from Pia Nilsson. LPGA Hall-of-Famer Pat Bradley will skipper the Americans.

Peter Thompson has been appointed captain of the International side for the President's Cup for the third time. He took over at short notice in 1996 when David Graham was controversially ousted and described last year's win in Melbourne as one of the highlights of his career. The chance to beat the Americans on their own soil in 2000 persuaded him to stay.

The tournament is returning to its original venue, the Robert Trent Jones Club in Virginia. Former US Open champion and CBS golf commentator Ken Venturi will be in charge of the American side.
