JOE CLINTON of The Hills has been named captain of the Ireland Under-19 cricket team which will play in the International Youth Tournament in Bermuda next July.

The competition will run from July 5th until July 14th. Ireland's opponents will be Bermuda (July 6th), Canada (July 7th), Scotland (July 9th), England (July 11th), Holland (July 12th) and Denmark (July 13th).

The two highest-placed sides from the International Cricket Council (ICC) Associate Members' group will qualify for the Youth World Cup to be hosted by South Africa in January 1998. All members of the current squad would be eligible, should Ireland. qualify from the Bermuda event, since the age limit for the associate countries will be under-20.

Three fixtures, to be played at Northern Cricket Union venues, have been arranged for the squad before departure for Bermuda. Ireland Under-19 will play the MCC on Friday, June 27th, New South Wales Combined High Schools on Monday, June 30th and the Ireland Development XI on Tuesday, July 1st.
