Trials to shed little light on Guineas Festival

SATURDAY'S Classic trial meeting at Kempton promises to shed little light on next month's Newmarket Guineas Festival

SATURDAY'S Classic trial meeting at Kempton promises to shed little light on next month's Newmarket Guineas Festival. Only four of the 18 fillies entered in the Masaka Stakes are engaged in the 1,000 Guineas while just four of the 13 colts in the Easter Stakes have been put in the 2,000 Guineas.

Richard Hannon won the Easter Stakes with subsequent 2,000 Guineas runner up Lucky Lindy in 1992 and is set to be doubly represented this year. "I have put Believe Me and Regiment in and they are both likely to run," the trainer said. "They are both in the Guineas and in good form."

Believe Me won three times as a two year old while twice raced Windsor winner Regiment has not been seen out since finishing second at Sandown last July. Hannon is hoping the pair can continue his successful start to the season, which has seen big race wins for the yard from Fire Dome and Stone Ridge.

"Things have gone well with wins in a Listed race and the Lincoln," he admitted. "The two year olds are a bit backward but touch wood the horses have all run up to expectations and none have run badly yet."
