On July 7th, 1950, Bobby Locke shot a final round of 68 to set a championship record aggregate of 279 - four strokes inside the previous mark - in the British Open at Troon. The event was also notable for a sparkling final day by Fred Daly, who started a third round of 69 with three threes and then carded a 66 in the afternoon. It gave the 1947 champion a share of third place with Dai Rees. Roberto de Vicenzo was runner-up.

Teaser: In strokeplay, a player whose ball lies in a water hazard takes several practice swings, touching the ground each time and removing leaves. He also bends a shrub, improving the area of his intended swing. What is the penalty?

Answer: Four strokes: two strokes for grounding his club and removing leaves (Rule 13-4) and two strokes for improving the area of his intended swing by pending a shrub (Rule 13-2).
