The Last Drop may be the complete outsider at 66 to 1 for the St Leger at York but connections believe he is not the no-hoper his odds would suggest.

The colt was 100 to 1 when a creditable fourth behind Youmzain and Red Rocks in the Great Voltigeur Stakes over a mile and a half at the Knavesmire on his latest start.

The extra two furlongs on Saturday should suit the son of Galileo, trained by Barry Hills, who sprang a 40 to 1 surprise in the Leger with Moonax 12 years ago.

"He's in great order. He's obviously a big price but he ran a great race at York last time," said Hills' son and assistant, Charlie.

"He should improve, I would have thought, and it's a fairly open race - anything could win it.

"The horse is thriving. He should stay very well and he's not dissimilar to what Moonax was like."

The Last Drop, who carries the colours of Jack Hanson, will have a new jockey on Saturday.

Michael Hills, who has ridden the colt in all his six races so far, has been booked to ride Mont Etoile for William Haggas.

However, the ride is still being kept in the family as Michael's twin brother Richard - who won the Leger on Mutafaweq for Godolphin in 1999 - will be in the saddle.

Seven runners have been declared for what looks an absorbing renewal of the Park Hill Stakes at York tomorrow. Michael Stoute's Allegretto returns to action on the Knavesmire after she was last seen finishing third behind Alexandrova and stablemate Short Skirt in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks.

Godolphin will be represented by Guadalajara, who was turned over when sent off the odds-on favourite for the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury last month.
