Shane Byrne received a boost following an MRI scan yesterday which revealed that he had only strained and not torn his right ankle ligaments and his left knee ligaments. It was initially feared that he would be out for the rest of the season and so miss an opportunity to win a first Irish cap in the forthcoming international against Romania in Bucharest on June 2nd.

Byrne had taken over as team captain from Leo Cullen who recently underwent an Achilles tendon operation.

Centre Michael Jackson is doubtful for this match and the availability of Brian O'Driscoll has to be ascertained.

Chris McCarey and Clem Boyd return to the team that shocked Lansdowne last time out for their game against Shannon at Pirrie Park.
