ELECTION fever is mounting and although no date is forthcoming lobby groups are already arguing about the actual day. At its annual conference tomorrow, the shopworkers' union called Mandate will debate a call for polling day to be moved from the traditional Thursday to a Sunday. No doubt some members of public service unions, like those who supervise the polling stations, will think this a bit rich considering Mandate is campaigning for a ban on Sunday trading for their own members in the retail trade.
Meanwhile, the youth branches in most political parties are calling for Friday voting to facilitate students who tend to go to their home constituencies that night. Who though, will the country's 300,000 new voters plump for Polls indicate they vote as, their parents do.
