OAKS WINNER Was, Elusive Kate, Giofra and Nahrain are among 45 entries for the €200,000 Group One Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes.
The Newmarket event has attracted a high-calibre entry for the race on September 29th, with the mile contest having gone to the Rod Collet-trained Sahpresa for the last three years.
The mare raced in the colours of Teruya Yoshida for her third and final victory in 2011 and the leading Japanese owner has three entries this year – Elusive Kate, Nova Hawk and Stay Alive.
Elusive Kate finished second in the Falmouth Stakes on her return for John Gosden, while 1,000 Guineas fourth Nova Hawk and Stay Alive are both trained in France by Collet.
Patrick Barbe, Teruya Yoshida’s racing manager in Europe has confirmed the race as a possible long-range target for Elusive Kate, but is unsure about the other two contenders. He said: “Nova Hawk is an unlikely runner, but Stay Alive returns at Dieppe (today) and we will know more about her after she runs there.”
Giofra and Siyouma were first and third in the Falmouth respectively, while dual Group One winner Immortal Verse and Roger Varian’s Prix de l’Opera winner Nahrain are other notable possibles. Henry Cecil has entered new recruit Beauty Parlour, while Aidan O’Brien has Was, Royal Ascot winner Ishvana and former top juvenile Maybe in his possible team.
