St David's prevailed in this hard-fought first-round match at Kilternan. Out-half Brian O'Sullivan proved to be the pivotal player as his side registered five tries thanks mainly to good running by both forwards and backs. Centre Ross McKeown got the pick of the bunch in the first period with a run from well within his own half. St Benildus tackled strongly and their commitment was best illustrated by the hard working half-back partnership. Notably Mal Coughlan scored a fine try in the last moment of the game. This enhanced an earlier touchdown and the points he landed with his boot. Winger Derek Corcoran also scored.
The St David's tries came from McKeown, Paddy Bateman, Tyrone Houlihan, Karl Byrne and O'Sullivan.
