Yuvraj secures emphatic 54-run victory for India

CRICKET:England's formula for one-day success was brutally exposed for a second successive match with Yuvraj Singh producing another dominant display to secure an emphatic 54-run victory for India in Indore.

Just three days after demonstrating his explosive strokeplay to hit an unbeaten 138 and help secure a 158-run victory in Rajkot, Yuvraj provided evidence of his all-round skills by performing with bat and ball.

His 118 off 122 balls helped India recover from a perilous 29 for three to reach a commanding 292 for nine, and then his underrated left-arm spin exposed England's technique on turning pitches to claim four for 28 as the tourists were dismissed for 238. It was a stunning display that has almost certainly done enough to earn him a recall to India's Test side next month as a replacement for the retired Sourav Ganguly.

Cronin resigns from Waterford

SOCCER:Waterford United have announced that following discussions over the past few days, the club has reluctantly accepted the resignation of manager Gareth Cronin.

Cronin had been in charge of the club since August 2006.

"It is with deep regret that I have decided to resign my post as manager of Waterford United Football Club with immediate effect," he said in a statement.

"I would like to thank the Board of the club, the players and staff I have worked with and the loyal true Waterford United fans who have supported me over the last two and a half years."

The club thanked Cronin for his commitment and effort since his appointment and said they will commence the process of recruiting a new manager immediately.

No F1 reprieve for Montreal

FORMULA ONE:Canadian government officials have conceded defeat in their efforts to have the country's grand prix reinstated to the 2009 Formula One calendar.

Senior figures in Montreal, the host city since 1978, had hoped to earn a reprieve after the race was left off next year's schedule owing to an alleged dispute with F1 rights owner Bernie Ecclestone over past payments.

Last-ditch efforts were made by city officials to drum up the sums expected by Ecclestone to stage the event, but Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay admitted yesterday that Ecclestone's "unreasonable demands" could not be met.

Tremblay said in a statement: "We were constantly guided in our negotiations by principles of responsible management.

"However, despite our endeavours and those of the business community, the unreasonable demands of Formula One exceeded the taxpayer's ability to pay."

Eagles and Bengals in rare NFL tie

NFL:The Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals played out the first NFL tie in six years when the teams finished deadlocked 13-13 on Sunday.

Cincinnatis Shayne Graham missed a 47-yard field goal attempt with seven seconds remaining in overtime for the hosts, leaving the teams tied after a scoreless 15 minutes of extra time.

Under NFL rules, only one overtime period is played.

I never even knew that was in the rule book, Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb said.

"I was looking forward to getting the opportunity to get out there and try to drive to win the game. But, unfortunately, with the rules, we settled with a tie."

The last time an NFL game ended in a tie, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons deadlocked 34-34 in 2002.

The outcome left the Eagles, who are in last place in the NFC East, with a 5-4-1 record. The Bengals, the worst team in the AFC North, are now 1-8-1.

It almost feels like we lost because we were winning the majority of the game, said Bengals receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh .

Romo boost for the Dallas Cowboys

NFL:Returning quarterback Tony Romo rallied the Dallas Cowboys to a much-needed 14-10 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

Romo, back in the line-up after missing three games with a broken finger, connected with Martellus Bennett on a 25-yard pass for the winning touchdown 10:43 from the end of the game.

The win lifted the Cowboys, who had lost to the Redskins earlier in the season, into a tie with Washington for second place in the NFC East and moved them back into the play-off picture with 6-4 record.
