When Jose Maria Olazabal spent an hour or so on Concorde practising his putting up the centre aisle of the famous aircraft, many of his Ryder Cup team-mates turned to watch. The Spaniard was trying to break the world record of 8.5 miles for a single putt held by Brad Faxton. Olazabal eventually beat the American's mark with a putt of 9.232 miles. How? It took 26.17 seconds for the US Masters champion to roll the ball up the 150 foot of cabin. In that short length of time the supersonic plane was able to cover just over nine miles.
