Roddy Collins to take Waterford United job

Dubliner will succeed Tommy Griffin when he is appointed on Tuesday afternoon

Roddy Collins is set to be unveiled as the new Waterford United boss at lunchtime on Tuesday with the much travelled Dubliner, who is returning to the game almost exactly a year after departing Derry City, in line to succeed Tommy Griffin who will stay on as part of the club's management team.

United started the season brightly enough, taking four points from their first two games, but they have not won since their defeat of Wexford Youths in their second game, adding just two points in the subsequent eight games and they narrowly lost away to leaders Finn Harps at the weekend.

Collins had moved to Derry before the start of last season after having successfully guided Athlone Town to promotion in 2013. The manager's job there became vacant over the weekend when Eddie Wallace stepped down for what are said to be family reasons. Former Mervue boss John Glynn has been linked with the job.
