Drogheda United 0 Cork City 1
A late winner from Gary Buckley sent Cork City top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division last night, following a lively encounter with Drogheda at United Park.
Cork finally broke the deadlock with just nine minutes remaining. A cross from the left was headed down by Mark O’Sullivan into the path of Buckley who fired a right-footed shot low past Schlingermann for the winner.
Drogs keeper Micheál Schlingermann was kept very busy in the opening period, making saves from Billy Dennehy on 10 minutes, and a Mark O’Sullivan header on 18.
Gavin Brennan had a great chance for the hosts before half-time but he fired straight at visiting goalkeeper Mark McNulty.Cork’s Josh O’Shea then blazed over on 56 minutes with the goal at his mercy.
Five minutes later Gavin Holohan nearly raised the roof at United Park when his 25-yard pile-driver hit the bar with McNulty beaten.
