Sligo faces inspection

Sligo's postponed card is again under threat from the weather with a 7.30 inspection planned for this morning

Sligo's postponed card is again under threat from the weather with a 7.30 inspection planned for this morning. The track was fit for racing yesterday but conditions have forced the calling of the inspection.

Should the first fixture of the year west of the Shannon get the go ahead, however, it will be good news for Conor O'Dwyer who appears to have a reasonable chance of landing a double.

Indeed reasonable could be understating the chance of Make A Move chance in the Beginners Chase. This one ran up against a peak form Blasket Sound at Clonmel last time out and turning into the straight looked a real danger to the well-backed favourite.

The move she made petered out on the run in but she travelled well to be in the position to make it and tonight's two and a half mile trip and the soft ground should be suitable for her. Blown Away is suggested as the danger.

O'Dwyer's mount Ontheboil looks to have the topweight Portulano and The Holy Parson to beat in the opening handicap hurdle which will be a stamina test over three miles but Frank Berry's horse may be capable of doing it.

Ontheboil was an improving fifth in a field of 20 at Listowel last month when unseating his rider four from the finish in the race won by Owen Bart. The 10.6 Ontheboil carries looks handy too.

Anything that Dermot Weld runs has to be respected at the moment and his filly Cavallina is hard to oppose in the Strandhill Maiden. A worry is that this filly is by Theatrical who usually goes better on faster ground but she did run a fine fourth to Amravati on her only run at Tipperary last season and is preferred to the ex-Richard Hannon trained Jilted.
