Convent of Mercy, Roscommon 4-18 St Mary's, Newry 0-9:A power-packed second-half performance at Virginia yesterday proved pivotal as Convent of Mercy, Roscommon stormed their way into this year's All-Ireland senior A schoolgirls' football final with victory over St Mary's, Newry.
Wind-aided Newry were in trouble by half-time as they trailed by 0-5 to 2-6 thanks, in part, to goals by Anna McCormack after 10 minutes and Cheryl Scally on 28 minutes for Mercy.
However, things got even worse for the Ulster champions on the restart with further goals from Sarah Staunton on 51 minutes and Scally again six minutes later propelling Mercy to a comfortable win.
