Rusedski, the world number 11, who beat Pete Sampras to take the Paris indoor title last Sunday, needed 66 minutes to move into the final eight and keep his dream of a place in this month's season finals in Germany alive.
The Quebec-born Briton today faces something of an all-Canadian battle when he plays Daniel Nestor, a rival from their junior days in Canada.
Nestor, ranked 115, ousted sixth seed Cedric Pioline of France 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 for his first quarter-final in a year.
Rusedski, Tim Henman - who meets Swede Magnus Gustafsson today - and Russian Yevgeny Kafelnikov are all competing for the last two places at the World Championships in Hanover, Germany, at the end of the month.
Rusedski (25), will make the eight-man field if he reaches the Stockholm final or if Kafelnikov does not reach the Kremlin Cup final this week. The same fate faces Henman.
