Bray Wanderers 1 Shamrock Rovers 2:SHAMROCK ROVERS extended their unbeaten run to nine games to move into second place in the Premier Division table as a 67th minute strike from top scorer Gary Twigg gave them a narrow victory over basement club Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds last night.

The match was delayed for half an hour after that goal when a 12 feet stretch of perimeter wall collapsed as Rovers fans celebrated. Gardai, medics, firemen and security staff came to the rescue of those injured in the surge forward from the terraces.

Rovers took a deserved lead on 42 minutes when Dessie Baker rifled home from 22 yards.

Bray were level on 54 minutes when a long free by Dane Massey on the left was fired home by Dave Mulcahy from close range.

But it was Rovers who grabbed a somewhat fortunate winner on 67 minutes when a harmless looking cross from the right from Stephen Rice was dropped by goalkeeper Chris O’Connor to allow Twigg the simple task of tapping home from 10 yards for his 16th league goal of the season.
