PGA Tour rookie Tim Herron equalled the course record at Eagle Trace on his way to a two stroke lead after the first round of the Honda Classic in Coral Springs, Florida yesterday.

Lee Rinker bogeyed his final hole to finish second with an eight under 64. Scott Verplank was third at 65, and Nick Price, the winner of this event two years ago, was next at six under 66.

Herron's 62 was accomplished with what seemed like great ease. He missed just one green, the 18th, but chipped in for birdie. He rolled in 10 birdie putts and missed four others inside of 15 feet.
