A COMPROMISE could soon be on the cards in the bitter, long-running battle for power between Super League and the Australian Rugby League.
British boss Maurice Lindsay is currently in Australia trying to help bring about a reconciliation which may mean that the World Club Championships and the tour Down Under will go ahead as planned later this year.
Rebel players under contract with Super League in Australia have offered to play in the 1996 ARL premiership - which is now due to start on Friday - but only if they are allowed to take part in Super League international events against Britain and the rest of the world.
The 311 rebels, who signed up with media baron Rupert Murdoch's breakaway competition, have also demanded the inclusion in this season's ARL premiership of two of the clubs created purely for Super League.
At a news conference, the players said they were prepared to "swallow their pride" and compete under the ARL banner if their conditions were met.
