Scottish Premier League: Rangers cut Celtic's lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League to two points with a 1-0 win at Dunfermline yesterday thanks to a Dado Prso goal.

The Croatian striker headed home after six minutes to secure a victory that takes Rangers on to 81 points from 33 games as they chase their 51st championship.

Celtic, hunting their 40th title, have 83 points from the same number of games after a dramatic 3-2 home win over Aberdeen on Saturday.

Rangers manager Alex McLeish is now relishing next Sunday's showdown with Celtic at Ibrox.

"We are looking forward to it. We have waited a long time for this," he said. "We are kind of at the situation we were a few weeks ago before Celtic unexpectedly dropped points at home to Hearts and we unexpectedly dropped points against Dundee United to put it back to the status quo of three or four weeks ago."

Meanwhile, John Hartson believes the Celtic supporters could be the key factor in their bid to keep team-mate and countryman Craig Bellamy instead of the money.

The Welsh international striker, who is on loan from Newcastle United, enhanced his hero status among Celtic Park faithful with a breathtaking second-half winning volley which sank Aberdeen .

The visitors had taken a 2-0 lead after just 14 minutes through goals from Zander Diamond and Darren Mackie before Stanislav Varga struck in the 27th minute and Hartson equalised on 51 minutes later.

Six minutes later Bellamy scored the winner after Alan Thompson's corner flew all the way to the opposite side of the box and former Coventry man drove a shot across Aberdeen goalkeeper Ryan Esson and into the top corner of the net.

That put the board under even more pressure to come up with the near £5-million bid to satisfy Newcastle but Hartson does not think that will be the problem.

Hartson said: "I haven't got a clue what he is thinking but the bottom line is that it will ultimately come down to Craig and what he wants to do in the summer.

"I haven't spoken to him and I don't think anybody has - the games are coming think and fast so we just want him to keep producing what he has been doing and help us out."

"I don't think it's about money and he will earn good money whatever he does whether he stays or not. It will come down to where he can find happiness. But he is an idol with the crowd and they are doing as much as they can to get behind him. He is ever so popular and rightly so - and the crowd are doing their bit."
