Peelo takes the points

David Peelo had two wins at the track championship meeting at Sundrive Road yesterday, while the other titles went to Keith Bannon and Simon Coughlan. Peelo was fastest in the kilometre time trial, with John Blackwell second and Bannon third. Then, Peelo proved best in the points race, finishing above Brian Hammond and Paddy Moriarty.

Peelo did not contest the sprint, in the final Bannon was too good for Eamon Dunne 2-0. But in the 4,000 metres pursuit final, Coughlan had the edge over Peelo and won in five minutes 14.5 seconds to 5:16.5. Blackwell, was second in the kilometre time trial and third in the sprint and pursuit.

The points race was decided over 30 laps and Peelo broke away with Hammond and they finished well clear with Peelo on 46 points to 30 for Hammond. Moriarty deprived Blackwell of another medal position, 17-16.
