WILLIE Mullins completed a one-two in the Rosslare Novice Hurdle at Wexford yesterday when Lancastrian Pride made every yard of the running to beat stablemate Valentine Gale by a length. Lancastrian Pride, the 11 to 8 on favourite, appeared ill at ease on this tight circuit, but David Casey made full use of his undoubted stamina over the three-mile trip.
Valentine Gale was certainly travelling better than the winner approaching the turn-in but found little when asked for his effort at the last. Mullins said: "I have nothing specific in mind for Lancastrian Pride but he will be kept over this trip. Pat (Morris) felt that Valentine Gale may not have quite stayed the three miles, and she will run at Fairyhouse next week in either a two and three quarter miles maiden or the final of the mares series."
Rosdemon survived a stewards' inquiry when following up his recent Limerick win in the Enniscorthy Handicap Chase. Paul Roche's mount and Hannies Girl had the race between them from two out and, although veering to the right approaching the last, the Roselier gelding kept on well to score by a length and a half. Rosdemon will now bid for his hat-trick in a two and a half mile handicap at Fairyhouse.
