SONIA O'SULLIVAN will lead the Irish team at the Cork City Sports in the Mardyke on Saturday where she will contest the 3000 metres with Katy McCandless.

Indeed McCandless will welcome the opportunity to impress the selectors with the initial deliberations on the Olympic team due to be announced shortly.

The event, as has now become the norm, will incorporate a triangular match between Ireland, England and a World Selection.

Several athletes who took national titles at the weekend will be in action with Marcus O'Sullivan going in the 1500 metres and Ken Nason will continue his quest for Olympic qualification.

Nenagh's sprint champions Neil and Gary Ryan, no relation, will compete in the 100 metres with another club pair Tom McGuirk and Eugene Farrell going in the 400 metres.

The Cork venue always seems to bring out the best in Antoine Burke and he will be hoping to overturn his recent record against Mark Mandy.

A second squad will be in action at the Small Nations meet at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast with Shane Healy again availing of the opportunity to improve his speed by competing at 800 metres. Terry McHugh and Roman Linscheid will compete here as the Cork venue is unable to cater for throws apart from the shot.
