Pβid∅ ╙ SΘ has expressed his delight after receiving a vote of confidence from club delegates at the Kerry County Board's meeting on Monday night when he was appointed manager for another two years.
Speaking on Radio Kerry yesterday, ╙ SΘ said: "I would like to first of all thank Sean Walsh and his executive board for reappointing me. For a while there after the Meath game I went into the bunker that Bin Laden is in at the moment and went into hiding to think it out.
"Having contemplated the situation and thought it out, I feel you know that another two years would be no harm as I have some unfinished work to complete and I hope I will be able to achieve that over the next two years."
Given that he has been manager since 1996 and that Kerry were humiliated by Meath in this year's All-Ireland semi-final, ╙ SΘ was asked if he had thought about quitting. "That would always be in one's mind," he said. "But my passion for Kerry football and my instincts and my body language will always tell me when it's time to move on.
"Nobody will have to tell me or coax me or push me because everyone knows my record and my passion for the Kerry jersey. When it's time to move on I won't have to be told, I assure you. I will move on myself.
Commenting on Kerry's defeat by Meath, ╙ SΘ said: "You have those days you know. I don't honestly believe that Meath were 15 points better than Kerry, I think everybody knows that in the country. It was one of those days where the lads were just flat-footed, we were all flat- footed maybe, it was one of those days when things just did not happen.
"It's a manager's nightmare, a fear, you hope these games happen sometime in maybe November, December, January or Febuary but that it will not happen in August or September. Unfortunately it happenned to us at the wrong time this year.
Kerry chairman Sean Walsh said ╙ SΘ's reappointment was the unaninious decision of the board following the recomendation of the executive.
Regarding the selection committee, Walsh said: "There was no mood for change by the clubs from five down to three selectors so we are happy to go along with that."
Jack O'Connor who was senior selector over the past two years until he stepped down after the defeat by Meath, was a surprise choice as Kerry under-21 manager considering John Evans was the man in possession.
Meanwhile, Liam Hassett has moved back to Kerry to take up a teaching post at St Michael's College, Listowel which will mean that he will rejoin Laune Rangers. Hassett missed Kerry's campaign this summer because of a serious leg injury. Killian Burns is going to Australia and will not be available this year.
Tyrone fans will get a chance to see the county's victorious minor and under-21 teams at Carrickmore tonight (7.0) when the two All-Ireland winning sides meet in a charity exhibition match, with all the proceeds going to the Children's Cancer Ward at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.
