RACING: Aidan O'Brien's Alberto Giacometti was held up at the rear of the field and could only stay on at the one pace to finish sixth in the Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp yesterday.
O'Brien's other charge in the Group One race, Spartacus, also finished out of the places after being prominent for a long way.
The race was won by Vespone, who led all the way and held off the fast-charging Magistretti, from the Neville Callaghan stable, by a length and a half.
Trainer Nicolas Clement said he intends to give the winner a break. The colt will return in the autumn, but no specific target has been mapped out.
Magistretti's owner, Michael Tabor, said: "Christophe Soumillon gave Magistretti a faultless ride and I am very pleased. There are no specific plans."
Godolphin's Lateen Sails stalked the eventual winner for much of the 10-furlong trip but was unable to quicken in the straight and was beaten a shade over two lengths into fourth, just behind Look Honey.
Godolphin's Leadership upset Clive Brittain's Warrsan as the two British-trained runners dominated the Group One Gran Premio di Milano in Milan yesterday.
Richard Hills took up the running after two furlongs on Leadership and, despite Warrsan's attempts to get on terms under Philip Robinson, dominated by a length and three-quarters.
Hills had earlier steered Aynthia to a gutsy win in the Group Three Premio Mario Incisa for Sheikh Mohammed.
