HOSTING the summit of the seven major industrialised countries plus Russia doesn't come cheap. Estimates are that Denver in Colorado is sheeling out $6.5 million (£3.97 million) in security alone on this weekend's summit, with 1,000 security guards being posted at summit sites at any given time, in addition to the 800 existing police staff. And goodness knows how much more will be spent on the fine food and wine to feed the leaders and the thousands of hangers-on. All for a meeting which has grown from an informal "fire-side chat" to a three-day circus.
