RACING NEWS:NORTHERN ALLIANCE is one of three Aintree Grand National entries lining up in today's Kilcash Chase at Clonmel, and Tony Martin's stalwart can boost his Liverpool claims with a victory.

Northern Alliance has already tasted big race success in his career with a win in the 2009 Kerry National, and he proved he is still an able operator on his last start when a fine fourth to Final Approach in the MCR Hurdle at Leopardstown last month.

He brings a 147 rating over fences to this afternoon’s race, which is superior to the other Aintree entries Dooneys Gate and In Compliance.

Willie Mullins runs Bishopsfurze and Skorcher in the €17,225 Listed Hurdle, and Paul Townend’s mount Bishopsfurze looks a worthy number one for both the stable and the race.

Only a fifth in the Slaney Hurdle, when badly hampered by a faller at the fourth last, has interrupted Bishopsfurze’s campaign to date, and this right-handed assignment over two-and-three-quarter miles looks perfect for him.

Fists Of Fury finished ahead of the Mullins horse in the Slaney, but a trouble-free run this time can see Bishopsfurze home in front.

Magen’s Star made virtually all the running on her jumping debut at Thurles in November and this versatile sort should prove hard to beat in the mares novice hurdle.

Baby Whizz has some smart bumper form and could be worth an interest in the second division of the maiden hurdle.
