NINE Irish players, including Cork amateur Hugh Mackeown, have entered for the Senior British Open at Royal Port rush on July 25th to 28th when Brian Barnes will be defending the title.
The closing date for entries is July 4th, by which time John Bland, the US based South African, is expected to join compatriot Gary Player in the line up.
The Irish challengers are: Paul Leonard. Michael Murphy, Liam Higgins, Hugh Boyle, MacKeown, Arnold O'Connor, Tony Coveney, Robert Kelly and Bobby Browne.
Meanwhile, Portmarnock's Noel Fox, who captured the East of Ireland Championship, is among four amateurs named by the GUI to fill invitations to compete in the Murphy's Irish Open at Druids Glen next month.
