UCD v Longford Town (Belfield, 7.30)
Twelve months ago, College were back from Europe while Longford apprehensively made their Premier Division debut. Now UCD find themselves candidates for relegation while Longford have a UEFA Cup second leg, at least, to look forward to on the back of a rousing 4-1 opening league win over Cork City last week. UCD have problems in central defence tonight. They remain without the suspended Clive Delaney, while captain Tony McDonnell (groin) is a big doubt. Richie Purdy may drop back to partner Robert McAuley or Alan McNally could come in to play against his brother, Longford defender Paul. Mick O'Donnell should return following suspension. With Keith O'Connor completing a two-match ban and Shay Zellor (ankle) still out, Longford hope to be unchanged from the Cork win, though they wait on Sean Prunty (knee). Stephen Gavin stands by.
Last season: Longford Town 2 UCD 0, UCD 0 Longford Town 2, Longford Town 2 UCD 0. Referee: A. Buttimer (Cork). Betting: Home: 11/8, Draw: 11/5, Away: 13/8.
Derry City v Monaghan United (Brandywell, 7.45)
"We passed the ball better than Shels and opened them up quite a bit, which was encouraging," said Monaghan manager Bobby Browne, not disheartened after last week's home defeat to the title favourites. With Stephen Murphy and Paul Shiels back from suspension, Browne has even more reason to be optimistic. Derry give a debut to Trinidadian Derek Fillips, a left-sided midfielder who has been playing in the US, provided his clearance comes through. Still out are Liam Coyle (Achilles) and Padraig Moran (hamstring), so Gary Beckett and Jamie Hughes continue up front.
Last season: Did not meet. Referee: P. Whelan (Dublin). Betting: Home: 5/6, Draw: 11/5, Away: 11/4.
