CHARLIE NASH, the former Irish senior title holder and Olympian, was in his son's corner as Charles junior reached the finals of the National Junior Boxing championships sponsored by Maxol in emphatic style at the National Stadium on Saturday.
Charles junior is an orthodox fighter, unlike his father, who was a southpaw, but Charlie senior is not surprised. "He is right handed like myself but they forgot to change my stance when I was a kid," he explained.
The latest Nash prospect only dropped eight points in all in winning his quarter final and semi final. His beat his semi final opponent Clive Smith, from Crumlin, 22-3.
Nash meets John Paul Campbell, in Friday night's final, and looks a guaranteed winner.
Patrick Walsh, the St Colman's welterweight was by far the best of three Cork qualifiers. He turned on the heat for Belfast's Shane Gennissi from the second round and won comfortably, 21-14.
