Dr McKenna Cup/Monaghan 0-8, St Mary's, Belfast 0-7: Despite playing three-quarters of the game with 14 players Monaghan managed to hold out for victory in Clones yesterday.

Monaghan's John Paul Mone was dismissed on a straight red card early in the second quarter following an off-the-ball incident with Leo Meenan.

Monaghan opened a two-point lead with St Mary's then having a great chance to take control when they were awarded a penalty in the 16th minute but Aidan McCarron's shot went wide.

Monaghan led at half-time by 0-6 to 0-3. In the 24th minute of the half Monaghan regained a three-point lead through Shane McManus.
