Lansdowne's Shane McEntee gave the most inspiring performance of the Old Belvedere Floodlit Cup last night to drive his side into the semi-final with this merciless annihilation of Greystones at Anglesea Road.
Really, these two sides did not belong on the same playing field. McEntee was a powerhouse in attack and defence. Greystones simply could not cope with his abrasive approach.
Further, Reggie Corrigan showed signs of his intentions for this season. Although not quite back to his best, there were times when his unmistakable style caught the eye.
Lansdowne crossed for three of their eight tries in the first half with McEntee, his brother Shane and right wing Marcus Dillon coming up trumps. Although they held a very healthy advantage, Greystones did have the undeniable advantage of the wind and rain in the second period.
This made little difference. In fact, it forced Lansdowne to concentrate further and they produced five tries in succession from Corrigan, David O'Mahony, Ryan Walker (2) and Dillon to completely demoralise Greystones. Their lack of resources was shown up clearly.
