RACING: Tony McCoy expects to be out of action for over a month after breaking his right arm at Worcester on Wednesday night.

The champion jockey was taken to Worcester Royal Hospital after his mount Kymberlya slipped on the final bend of the Rose Hill School Handicap Hurdle when still in contention. McCoy was left in obvious pain on the ground, but he was able to walk into the racecourse ambulance, although his arm was in a sling. He underwent an operation yesterday.

"It's a broken arm so I think it will be about five or six weeks. They put a plate in it this morning. It was a bit of a mess but apparently the operation went well," he said last night.

"The hospital wouldn't let me go today. I've got to get it X-rayed again in the morning I suppose, before they let me go. I'll be out tomorrow but I won't be riding for about five or six weeks."

McCoy said he had whiled away the hours by watching some top-class action on the Flat and particularly enjoyed the exploits of his counterpart on the level, Kieren Fallon, as he booted Mr Dinos home to win the Gold Cup. "I've watched Royal Ascot today. Mr Dinos was very impressive. Kieren gave him a good ride," he said.

McCoy missed watching the last race but was delighted to hear the Clive Cox-trained New Seeker had defied a supposedly unfavourable high draw to take the Britannia Stakes.

McCoy rode a winner on Tactful Remark at Southwell on Wednesday afternoon before travelling to Worcester to take up his engagements there. He has ridden 36 winners so far this term.
