A disastrous display by Leitrim against a depleted Mayo side resulted in a game that will be remembered more for its boredom than the quality of football.
In the 21st minute Stephen Carolan scored Mayo's first goal when he gathered possession on the left and in a fine individual effort planted the ball in the back of the net.
Leading 1-7 to 0-3 at the interval Mayo set off on a shooting spree from the resumption with points by Michael Coleman, Ronan Loftus and David McDonagh to give the visitors a 10-points cushion going into the final quarter.
The game ended as a contest when David Nestor flicked the ball past Leitrim goalkeeper Diarmuid Brady three minutes from time.
