NFL DIVISION THREE: Wexford 1-14 Cavan 2-9:WEXFORD PLOTTED their way to an eventual two-point victory, but not without some tense second-half moments as Cavan staged a remarkable recovery which fell just short at Wexford Park yesterday afternoon.
Wexford looked on their way to a comfortable victory when leading 1-7 to 0-3 at the interval having played into the wind, but they were made do things the hard way by a Cavan side that made the changes during the break which helped bring about a much -improved second-half display. And Cavan were denied by three great saves from home goalkeeper Anthony Masterson.
Wexford assumed control of the first half when Paddy Byrne crashed home a 13th-minute goal.
However, after the sides traded points following the interval, substitute Michael Lyng scored a 48th-minute goal to reduce the deficit to four points, 1-10 to 1-6.
Cavan came close to scoring several more goals, but Masterson was superb, and Lyng’s second goal came too late to save them.
