Champions League/Bayern Munich: Striker Roy Makaay is a doubt for the Champions League first leg quarter-final tie against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Makaay has been struggling with a thigh injury sustained in Saturday's 3-0 win over Wolfsburg that led to his substitution.

He missed training yesterday as medical staff tried to improve his chances making the Stamford Bridge game. Bayern's attack has already been depleted by the absence of Peruvian forward Claudio Pizarro who injured muscles against Wolfsburg.

Pizarro is definitely ruled out of the first leg and is considered unlikely to play in the return at the Olympic Stadium.

"We knew this would be a tough and hard game and I always felt one goal would be enough to win it," manager Rafael Benítez said. I was happy for Igor Biscan to score and he is working very hard. We needed to win this game and now we have reduced the gap. We'll keep fighting right to the end."

PSV EINDHOVEN: First-half goals from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Ji-Sung Park gave the runaway Dutch leaders a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to FC Utrecht, and coach Guus Hiddink, was impressed by his side's application on their return to Dutch league action ahead of their first leg quarter-final tie against Lyon. "I'm glad we continued where we'd left off," he said. "You never know how the players will return from international duty."

Lyon coach Paul Le Guen rested Sidney Govou, Lamine Diatta and Sylvain Wiltord, but the champions still extended their lead at the top to 13 points.

AC MILAN, JUVENTUS, INTER MILAN: Inter play AC Milan on Wednesday and both sides, like fellow-Italians Juventus, return to Champions League action without having played this weekend after the Serie A programme was postponed out of respect to Pope John Paul II, who died on Saturday evening.
