MOTOR SPORT:Aaron MacHale is on target to win the Dunlop National Rally Championship With three rounds to run, including Sunday's Galway Summer Rally, MacHale on 116 points leads Niall Maguire (103), Glenn Allen (75), Kevin Barrett (74), Patrick Elliott and Mike Curran (68 each), Seamus Leonard (59), Michael Barrable (54). Curran leads Leonard in Group N.

MacHale cannot afford to make any mistakes in his bid to win the title for the first time as he only has a 13-point lead over Maguire, record three-time championship winner.

Formula Libre and Porsche racing are listed for Kirkistown's Martin Donnelly Trophy meeting tomorrow, of which the feature race will be for Formula Ford 1600.

Irish drivers are chasing championship points in British races this weekend. Niall Breen is sixth in the British Formula 3 Championship, the Dundalk driver on 107 points behind Jonathan Kennard (115).

With six races to run, and 20 points for a win and a bonus point for the fastest lap, Breen is in with a realistic chance of closing on Maro Engel (156), Sam Bird (150), Stephen Jelley (131) and Kennard. Michael Devaney (Dublin) has made great progress with the Mygale against the dominant Dallara cars and is 11th on 47 points, just four points behind Nigel Mansell's son Greg.
