The Mayo Grand Prix yesterday was won by David O'Loughlin from Cong but riding in the colours of his Belgian team DCM. At the end of 80 miles O'Loughlin was 21 seconds ahead of Paddy Moriarty of Les Jeunes, who missed out on a weekend double after winning the 50 miles time trial championship over a Co Antrim course on Saturday, with Ray Clarke third.

On the second of three laps, that included the Windy Gap climb, O'Loughlin was with Moriarty, Clarke and John McCarthy but on the final circuit O'Loughlin forged ahead for another win and take the lead in the new style classic league.

Moriarty was the decisive winner of the 50 miles TT title on Saturday. Promoted by Maryland Wheelers on the course from Knockmore, near Lisburn, by Moira and to the Nutts Corner airport roundabout and back, Moriarty's one hour 53 minutes and 23 seconds was almost three minutes faster than Tommy Evans with David Peelo third.

Moriarty reached the halfway turn 50 seconds ahead of Evans with Peelo at 1:10 and on the harder second half he increased his advantage to win by 2:56 with Peelo at 3:43.
