1998 - (October) Graham leaves for Tottenham and is replaced by David O'Leary. David Batty returns to Elland Road from Newcastle in a £4.4 million deal.

1999 - Leeds back into Europe after finishing fifth. More big-money signings arrive in Michael Duberry, Michael Bridges, Jason Wilcox, Darren Huckerby, along with future England full back Danny Mills, at £4 million from Charlton, which are offset by the sale of striker Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink to Athletico Madrid in a £12 million deal. (October 3rd) Leeds take over at the top of the Premiership after a 2-1 win at Watford.

2000 - (April) Leeds reach semi-finals of UEFA Cup. Match against Galatasaray is overshadowed by death of two fans in Istanbul. Leeds Sporting plc announce £29 million turnover, of which £6 million is profit. (May) Leeds finish third and secure a place in the Champions League qualifiers. £7.2 million brings in Olivier Dacourt from Lens and Leeds pay Celtic £6 million for striker Mark Viduka. (August) Beat 1860 Munich to qualify for the Champions League group stages. (November) Leeds shell out a British record £18 million to bring West Ham defender Rio Ferdinand to Elland Road.

2001 - Endure a torrid time off the pitch, with star players Lee Bowyer and Jonathan Woodgate involved in a high-profile court case. Irish forward Robbie Keane is bought from Inter Milan in a £11 million deal. Reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they lose over two legs to Valencia. Finish fourth in Premiership, and have to make do with the UEFA Cup. Robbie Fowler leaves Liverpool for Elland Road in an £11 million deal, with Derby's Seth Johnson costing £7 million.

2002 - (January) Leeds go top of Premiership by beating West Ham 3-0 on New Year's Day. Dumped out of FA Cup by Cardiff. (February) Lose to PSV Eindhoven in the fourth round of the UEFA Cup. (May) Leeds miss out on Champions League again by finishing fifth. (June) O'Leary axed, Terry Venables takes over. (July) Ferdinand sold to Manchester United for a world record £33 million. Nicky Barmby comes in from Liverpool for £2.75 million. (August) Keane sold to Spurs for £7 million. (November) Leeds beaten 2-1 at Sheffield United in the League Cup. (December) Crash out of the UEFA Cup when they are beaten 2-1 at home by Malaga.

2003 - (January) Bowyer allowed to leave for just £100,000 when he joins West Ham. Dacourt off-loaded to Roma and Fowler sold to Manchester City. Newcastle buy Woodgate for £9 million. (March 9th) Sheffield United knock Leeds out of FA Cup. Leeds part company with Venables, and Reid is appointed manager. (March 31st) Peter Ridsdale resigns as chairman. (May) 3-2 win at Arsenal secures Leeds' top-flight status. Dacourt's switch to Roma made permanent in a £3.5 million deal. (July) Harry Kewell leaves for Liverpool in a deal which sees Leeds receive just £3 million, with around another £2 million heading to his agents.(October) Leeds reveal record £49.5 million loss for the year - with the club's debt now around £78 million. (November 2nd) Leicester's win over Blackburn sends Leeds to the bottom of the league. (November 8th) Elland Road sidethumped 6-1 at Portsmouth. (November 10th) Leeds part company with Reid.
