Florent Laville will complete a £750,000 move from the French champions Olympique Lyonnais to Bolton early next week when the English club's chairman Phil Gartside returns from holiday in Australia.

The 29-year-old defender, who made 10 appearances on loan towards the end of last season, will sign a two-year contract after agreeing personal terms.

Ipswich, out of administration but still attempting to reduce their wage bill, will allow the French winger, Ulrich le Pen, who was on loan at Strasbourg last season, to join the Alsace club on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old made only three substitute appearances after a £1.5 million move from Lorient in November 2001.

It has been confirmed that Portsmouth have beaten Rangers to the signature of the Serbia and Montenegro international Dejan Stefanovic, a former Sheffield Wednesday defender, in a deal worth £1.85 million from Vitesse Arnhem on a three-year contract.

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp said: "He's a big drinker and a smoker, a real nightmare. But, seriously, he's going to be a great player for us. He brings a lot of experience to the back and is solid on the left-hand side."

The Serbia-born Bora Milutinovic, whose coaching took the United States, China, Mexico, Costa Rica and Nigeria to World Cup finals, is to take over the Serbia and Montenegro national team.

Fulham, preparing an appeal against Fifa's order to pay Valencia almost £500,000 after a row over John Carew's aborted move, could discover Fifa's verdict on the long-running Steve Marlet transfer saga next Saturday when the world governing body meets in Paris.

The Marlet deal went through in August 2001 but Fulham refused to pay the final £3.27 million of the £11.5 million fee due to concerns over the role of agents. FIFA ordered Fulham to pay in February but the club lodged an appeal.

David Seaman has declared that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had been "a gentleman" in his handling of the goalkeeper's departure from Highbury.

The 39-year-old stopper ended his 13-year association with the Gunners this summer when he joined Manchester City after being told by Wenger he would be looking to bring in another top-level goalkeeper.

But Seaman had no complaints about the Frenchman's actions, and though it was a "massive wrench" to leave Arsenal he is looking forward to a new start - and a new stadium - with City.

He said: "Arsene Wenger was a complete gentleman about everything. He said to me 'this is what I have got to offer, if you don't take it I fully respect the decision you make', and you can't be any fairer than that.

"It was a massive wrench to leave Arsenal. I've got great friends there, great memories and the relationship I had with the fans was fantastic. I can't wait to go back to Highbury with Manchester City."
