NATIONAL LEAGUE/Dundalk 1 Cork City 0:TIARNAN MULVENNA'S 86th minute strike kept Dundalk's faint hopes of European qualification alive as they deservedly beat a very disappointing Cork City in the Premier Division tie at Oriel Park on Saturday night.

Mulvenna forced the ball home after City goalkeeper Dan Connor failed to hold on to Michael McGowan’s left wing cross. It was just rewards for Seán Connor’s side who dominated the second-half.

Cork’s best effort came in the third minute when Peter Cherrie did well to tip Stephen O’Donnell’s left-footed curler around the post. From then on it was one way traffic. Paul Doolin’s side looked to have weathered the storm but they were undone by Mulvenna’s late goal.

DUNDALK: Cherrie; Shaun Kelly, Burns, Coburn, McKinlay; Daly, Turner, McAreavey (Collins 58), McGowan; Rowe, Mulvenna.
