Drogheda Utd 2 St Patrick's Ath 1:DROGHEDA BELIED their position near the foot of the table to record only their second league win of the season over high-flying St Patrick's.

United, clearly revitalised under caretaker boss Darius Kierans, were the better side from start to finish. The only surprise was they left it so late to secure the points.

When it arrived what a peach of a winner it was as Joe Kendrick powered down the left before delivering a wonderful low ball into the box for John Flood who guided his shot past Gary Rogers.

Drogheda almost gifted St Patrick’s a goal when goalkeeper Paul Skinner missed an attempted clearance but Eoghan Osborne cleared to save his team-mate’s blushes. As the first half progressed Drogheda took control and were full value for their lead goal after 30 minutes, Paul Crowley meeting Kendrick’s corner with a bullet-like header.

St Patrick’s equalised in the second minute of additional time. Vinny Faherty guided a header home from Derek Doyle’s floated delivery. Chances were few and far between in the second half until Flood struck for the late winner.
